Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus speaks most persuasively to me through the language of logic, including the powerful testimony of fulfilled prophecy. Like many other people, I have considered options to Christianity and found them completely unconvincing. For example, materialist philosophies such as Marxism, scientism, and postmodernism assert that only physical matter exists in the universe. To them, immaterial things such as soul and spirit (Hebrews 4:12) cannot exist. A logical response to their assertion is the transcendental argument (which has nothing to do with transcendentalism, a false ideology that worships nature and man). This argument points out that even materialists accept that non-material things are real. For example, materialists know that numbers are genuine. We do not find numerals floating in space or buried in the ground, but they are undeniably factual. Add in important numerical concepts such as pi and the golden ratio (also called the divine proportion), and it becomes obvious that any philosophy that excludes the existence of God cannot be taken seriously and must be discarded. It is logical to trust in Jesus Christ, for “by Him all things consist [hold together]” (Colossians 1:17).
