Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We have been considering how Jesus completes what He begins – His work of atonement, His Resurrection, His preparation of heaven for us. Furthermore, Hebrews 12:2 speaks of Jesus as “the Author and the Finisher of our faith.” By finishing our faith, Jesus is putting the finishing touches on us. II Timothy 1:8-12 tells us that right now each one of us is able to be confident “that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day” (verse 12). We should note that this confidence is based on His completed work, including His Resurrection (verse 10). No, we are not yet a finished product, but we are in the skilled and solicitous hands of the “Finisher.” We can be “confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
