Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus is fully God, His knowledge is absolute; He is omniscient. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Me.” When He says that He is “the Truth,” He is saying more than that He is trustworthy (He is!) or that He establishes the standard between right and wrong (He does!). He is making an absolute claim of omniscience, for to be “the Truth” is to know truth and thus to be able to distinguish it from falsehood. This all-knowingness is an essential characteristic of God. Among other things, it means that He remembers. In Psalm 103:10-19, we find the obvious: Jesus knows our sins, knows that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), and knows that we are thus limited in ability and in time. Verse 14 is especially poignant: “For He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust.” Yes, Jesus remembers who we are, and He does what is necessary to help us. Verse 17 reminds us that His mercy is everlasting; it must be, for He is both merciful and everlasting. It is this eternal, blessed consistency that assures us of each Christian’s destination in heaven (verse 19). We can be certain that Jesus remembers that we are His.
