Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Last week, we began thinking about Jesus as the Master Builder. He has created “all things” (John 1:3) and continues to construct His Church. This is a monumental undertaking, for our selfish and self-interested sin natures stand in the way. Ephesians 2:14 records a powerful work of Jesus: “For He is our peace, Who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.” The great divide of the ancient world was between Jewish and non-Jewish (Gentile) people. Both considered the other to be inferior, even subhuman. Yet, Jesus reached out to both groups and brought them together. This remarkable and unprecedented fellowship was a powerful testimony to a divided world. Jesus broke down this wall of separation in order to build, and build He did.
