Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus gives His people hope, and He reveals this hope in His Word. If any of us ever need encouragement, all we have to do is look up the word hope in a concordance and start reading those verses. Hebrews 6:10-20 is part of God’s Word, of course, and has much to say about hope. It also points us back to God and to His Word, telling us that with God there is always more – more that is good. Verses 17 and 18 provide a firm foundation for our hope, “His counsel,” seconded by His personal “oath.” In other words, His promises are sealed by His promise! As Jesus said in Matthew 24:25, “Heaven [the cosmos] and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.” This is indestructible, eternal truth. Our hope is the same.
