Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus is light. When we began this study last week, I pointed out that the light of our Savior provides essential illumination and understanding, clear direction, and a quieting of our fears. We need to understand that “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin” (I John 1:7). As God’s people, we require help to eradicate our “thorns” and “briers” (Isaiah 10:17); only the fiery light of Jesus is effective. The light of Jesus gives us clear direction “to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:7a), the way of God’s best, the way to heaven. Our present fears can also be assuaged, for we are no longer people of darkness. Let us not live in the shadows, for “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all”    (I John 1:5). Let us instead remember where this light leads us – to heaven, where “the Lamb is the light thereof” (Revelation 21:23).
