Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, God the Son, is a foundational truth of the Christian faith. Because His birth was miraculous, He did not inherit a sin nature, as all of us have. The angel Gabriel said to Mary in Luke 1:35, “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing [offspring] shall be called the Son of God.” Later, in Luke 4:34, Jesus is called “the Holy One of God.” Because He is fully God, Jesus is absolutely holy and has no inclination to sin. For example, He possesses no arrogance; Philippians 2:8 reminds us that “being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” The sad irony is that the Sinless One died because of our sins. The sinlessness of Jesus (His impeccability) assures us that His sacrifice on our behalfs and in our places is eternally effective.
