Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), Jesus came to give us genuine peace, God’s best. As we saw yesterday from Luke 2:14 and Romans 1:7, this peace is certain because it is from God, in Whom all good originates. Furthermore, through faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ, we also have peace with God. In Romans 5:1, Paul wrote, “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Our natural condition is enmity with God – open warfare (Romans5:10 – “we were enemies”; see also Ephesians 2:1-3). He is the One Who has been attacked and wronged; we are the ones who have broken the relationship, who have broken the peace. Our Savior does what we cannot do: He provides the reconciliation, the peace. A blessed part of the Christmas message is that each one of us who trusts in Jesus for salvation now has peace from Him and with Him.
