Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

We spent last week considering that Jesus is personal. This personal nature of Jesus has individual and eternal implications. His personal touch must be understood in terms of Jesus as a personal Savior. John 6 illustrates this truth. A large crowd, numbering in the thousands, had experienced a miraculous meal from the hand of the Messiah, and they were eager for more. However, when Jesus confronted them with their unbelief in His Messianic mission (verse 64), “from that time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him” (verse 66). These people did not want to commit to Jesus; no, they wanted to control Him. There is a powerful lesson here about the negative impact of a mob mentality. There is an even greater lesson: each one of us must decide individually to receive salvation from Jesus Christ and thus enter into an everlasting relationship with Him. Any genuine relationship must be personal; certainly a real relationship with Jesus must likewise be personal. May each of us be sure that we are saved forever through faith in Jesus Christ.
