Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus is ever creative, as John 1:1-5 clearly presents. One of His glorious creations is light. He is the “light of men” (verse 4). Genesis 1:3 tells us, “And God said, ‘Let there be light’: and there was light.” This physical creation is profound, for light is energy. The Bible is not a science book, for its purpose is to reveal the glory and majesty of God. However, wherever it touches upon matters of science, the Bible is completely accurate and provides unexpected insight. For example, Genesis 1 details the entire space/time continuum. God created space (“heaven” – verse 1), matter (“earth” – verse 1), energy (“light” – verse 3), and time (“the first day” – verse 5). Moses, writing in the 1400’s B.C., did not have the scientific knowledge that we have today. He could not have known that light is energy. Of course, the Creator knew, and He gave us this foundational truth right at the beginning of His Word. The energy that drives all life, including our lives, was fashioned by our Lord, Who continues to sustain us (Colossians 1:17).
