Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The creative power of Jesus is evident everywhere we look. John 1:1-5 focuses our attention on this grand truth, assuring us that “all things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made” (verse 3). He is thus the Creator of life: “In Him was life” (verse 4). This fact should have an immediate positive impact on the way we view life: “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will be glad and rejoice in it” (Psalm 118:24). Especially, though, we should be thinking of the context of the Gospel of John, where “life” points us to eternity. For example, when Jesus arrived to raise His friend Lazarus from the dead, He said, “I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). Through a simple faith in Jesus, each one of us enters into the absolute assurance and complete certainty of this profound promise.
