Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Right now, right here, Jesus is a sanctuary. The lovely word picture of Isaiah 32:1-2 is Messianic: “Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment. And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.” Most of us are familiar with Corrie ten Boom (as an aside, I knew the lady who served as Corrie’s personal assistant later in life). This Christian lady helped to save Jewish people from the Nazis in World War II. The ten Boom family had a physical hiding place in their home, and the book chronicling their story is called The Hiding Place. However, she was speaking primarily about her Savior, Jesus Christ. He was her “hiding place” during that terrible time and throughout her entire life. Our story may not be as dramatic as Corrie’s (mine certainly isn’t), but we all share the same “hiding place.”
