Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We return today to Isaiah 54:5: “For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; the God of the whole earth shall He be called.” This rich verse is Messianic, pointing us directly to the Savior, Jesus Christ. Because He is fully God, Jesus is absolutely holy, “without blemish and without spot” (I Peter 1:19). “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, [Who] was, and is, and is to come,” says Revelation 4:8b. Past, present, and future – Jesus is unchanged (Hebrews 13:8 – “Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, and to day, and forever”). Thus, He has always been holy, is holy right now, and will remain holy in eternity. It is deeply encouraging to know that Jesus is not diminished in any way by His close relationship with us. Rather, He retains the full perfection of His holiness even as His righteousness is placed on our eternal account (Romans 5:16-17). May we continue to marvel that the omnipotence of Jesus is used for our everlasting benefit.
