Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Our Savior Jesus Christ listens to us (Revelation 8:1-4; Psalm 17:6; 31:2; 71:2; 86:1; 102:2). His avid interest in our words should prompt us to think about what we communicate to Him. We don’t have to guess about saying “Jesus, thank you.” I Thessalonians 5:18 considerately commands, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” I frequently thank Jesus for the evidences of His beauty in nature, for particular blessings (there are many of them), and for the completion of tasks minor and major. We certainly need to thank Jesus for others. Ephesians 1:16 records the example of Paul: [I] cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.” Jesus is listening when we talk to Him about others, when we pray for each other. Our simple utterances of thanksgiving are pleasing to Him. Since Jesus is listening, then, we should be speaking.
