Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus has “loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (Revelation 1:5). His specific messages to His Church are evidences of His abiding love. In Revelation 3:21-22, Jesus says to the first-century church at Laodicea and to us, “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” The strong note of certainty here should strengthen our faith. We are reminded that our overcoming is secured not by our efforts at self-salvation but by the work of Jesus, Who “overcame.” Note also that He is “set down,” indicating that His work is finished and cannot be undone. We should also note that it is Jesus Who gives us a place at His throne: He has promised to “grant” this position of authority and fellowship to each believer. Jesus loves His Church, and that love will never diminish.
