Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus keeps all of His promises, including His covenant with the people of Israel. Revelation 7:1-8 records that at the end of this age “the seal of the living God” (verse 2) will be placed upon 144,000 Jewish people (verse 4) in order to evangelize (Revelation 14:4 – “firstfruits”). Cults such as the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Mormons try to claim that they are the 144,000 or the “lost tribes” of Israel (which were never lost!), but that appropriation is both blasphemous and heretical. Did God lie to Abraham, to David, to the entire nation of Israel? Of course not! Jesus is “the Truth” (John 14:6) and is “called Faithful and True” (Revelation 19:11). Thirteen times in the Old Testament, we find that God made an “everlasting covenant” with the nation of Israel. He is everlasting and everlastingly “Faithful and True.” Jesus will keep all of the promises that He has made to Israel. May we join in this joy of others, and may we appreciate the certainty that the trustworthy character of Christ guarantees to each one of us.
