Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Because “the prayers of all saints” are “before the throne” of God (Revelation 8:3-4), we know that we can pray for good things (Matthew 7:7-11). In Matthew 9:36-38, Jesus tells us what one of these good things is: “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith He unto His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth labourers into His harvest.’” The eternally kind heart of Jesus is revealed here, for He truly cared about the “multitudes” and about each person in those “multitudes.” He knew them, and He knows us. He is fully aware that not all of us can become missionaries, for many of us simply do not have that particular calling from God. Still, though, we can all be engaged in the great work of evangelism through prayer. Let us continue to pray for the missionaries that we support financially or that we just know by name, and let us further pray that other laborers will hear and heed the high and holy calling of Christ Jesus.
