Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
In our ongoing spiritual battle with Satan and the demons (Revelation 9; Ephesians 6:10-18), all Christians need all of “the whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:13) to be able to “stand therefore” (verse 14) in this inevitable conflict. Verse 17 tells us to “take the helmet of salvation.” Obviously, a soldier’s helmet protected his head. In the spiritual realm, it represents protection of our minds, of our intellects, particularly regarding our understanding of our “salvation.” Certainly Satan will attack our certainty of what is the single most important thing in life – eternal life in heaven through faith in Jesus Christ, God the Son. Satan is unable to change the reality of our salvation, for neither “principalities [demons] nor powers [Satan and his full forces]” are “able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). The inclusion of “principalities” and “powers” in Ephesians 6:12 directly connects this passage to the unwavering and absolute promise of Romans 8. Since Satan cannot alter our salvation, he and the demons will instead seek to negatively affect our surety of eternal salvation. Yes, this spiritual warfare is continuous – but so is our salvation!
