Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The assaults of Satan and the demons (Revelation 9) require a definite response by each Christian (Ephesians 6:10-18). Yesterday, we briefly considered one of Satan’s greatest attacks on us – discouragement. Satan will hit hard and close to home; in fact, he will target our homes. We can easily become deeply distressed and desperately discouraged when problems arise in our families. Of particular concern – and causing consternation – is a family member’s rejection of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Our adversary will endeavor to heap the blame on us and will scoff at our sincere efforts to live godly lives. We need “the helmet of salvation” (Ephesians 6:17) to combat this insidious and invidious invasion of our intellects. We should remember that even our Lord Himself suffered rejection from many family members. John 7:5 is one of the saddest verses in Scripture: “For neither did His brethren believe in Him.” Later, after Jesus’ Resurrection, some repented and believed in Him. Through both this rejection and repentance, Jesus remained faithful. It does matter how we live, and today may be the day of salvation for someone we love dearly.
