Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The vicious onslaught of Satan and the demons (Revelation 9) is poured out upon Christians today. We need “the whole armour of God” so that we “may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand” (Ephesians 6:13). “The helmet of salvation” (verse 17) particularly protects our minds from Satan’s weapon of discouragement. I Thessalonians 5:8 adds this compelling instruction: “But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.” Biblical “hope” is a certainty. Verses 9-11 clarify what this “hope of salvation” is: “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” This soaring statement of the surety of our salvation should scatter Satan’s strikes! May we deflect the discouragement that Satan wields with this absolute assurance of our eternal relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
