Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Our Lord is sovereign and good. In Revelation 11:11-12, we find that the two murdered ministers of the Messiah are miraculously resurrected: “And after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them. And they heard a great voice from heaven, saying unto them ’Come up hither.’ And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.” The Holy “Spirit of life” raises up these two faithful prophets. Certainly God is good to them in honoring them and their labor in this astonishing display of His everlasting might. He is also good to their evil enemies, for they observe that He is sovereign over death itself and grants eternal life to anyone who will receive it from Him. “Come up hither” is spoken to the two evangelists, but these words are also an invitation to everyone who is on earth at that time. Even when people are uninterested in Jesus or openly antagonistic to Him, He continues to give them every evidence of His desire and power to save.
