Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
It is only through “the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 12:11) that our victory over Satan is secured. We are redeemed (bought back) by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Galatians 4:4-5). Speaking of this sacrificial atonement, I Peter 1:18-19 states, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation [pattern of behavior] received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” Because we are decidedly corruptible, we have nothing to offer to God for our redemption. Even that which men hold dear – “silver and gold” – cannot avail (and we should remember with shame that mankind valued God the Son at thirty pieces of silver). These “corruptible things” are not “precious” to God. However, the “blood of Christ,” God the Son, is “precious” indeed. No greater purchase price is possible. As the hymn “Rock of Ages” says, “Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to Thy Cross I cling.”
