Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Revelation 14:3 records the singing of a heavenly hymn: “And they sang as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders; and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.” “A new song” celebrates a fresh display of God’s salvation and goodness. Since He is ever at work, new songs will abound unto all eternity. Some might wonder why this “new song” is “sung” by only the 144,000 Jewish believers. The reason is that they will experience a special deliverance during the Tribulation period. This “new song” is their response of praise to the Savior; it is a song of testimony. In that sense, all of us have a “new song” to sing. Some of us were saved as children or teens; others were saved later in life, sometimes much later. God reached into our lives through Scripture, preaching, teaching, godly examples, and numerous other ways. Some were saved in church, Sunday school, or youth group; others were saved in the quietness of a room at home or in the beauty of God’s creation. All of us are drawn to salvation by God the Holy Spirit, and all of us are saved by faith in God the Son. However, the details of each salvation experience are different, and each of us should be “ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you” (I Peter 3:15).
