Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“But, wait – there’s more!” These dubious words from late-night cable television advertisements are always true of the works of God. Just when we think that He has done everything possible, He demonstrates that He “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). Revelation 14:6 records, “And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.” The word “everlasting” tells us that the good news about Jesus leads to eternal life. It also reveals that this message is unchanging: it is applicable to anyone, anywhere, anytime. In Matthew 24:14, speaking of the Tribulation time, Jesus prophesied that “this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” Jesus has already employed the ministry of the two powerful prophets (Revelation 11:1-14) and the 144,000 (Revelation 14:1-5). Now, through the universal proclamation of this angel, no one can claim that he was not specifically warned. The prophecy of Jesus will be fulfilled, and the message of salvation will be offered to everyone.
