Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In the midst of the catastrophic destruction of the Tribulation, our Savior God continues to reveal His great goodness: “And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory” (Revelation 18:1). No one can fairly say that our Lord does not do the utmost to illuminate our darkness and draw us into His kind light. One notable example is the star that accompanied the birth of God the Son, Jesus Christ (Matthew 2:1-12). The magi specifically referenced this natal light: “Where is He [Who] is born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him” (verse 2). Remember, these were men who lived in a thoroughly pagan society, a culture of deep darkness. Another compelling occasion is the conversion of Paul: “Suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven” (Acts 9:3b). This murdering man of mayhem was brought out of his spiritual darkness in that moment. The very character of God is perfect light: “God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all” (I John 1:5b). Each Christian has experienced this flood of light personally, and we are eternally grateful for Jesus, Who said, “I am the Light of the world” (John 9:5b). His light remains constant and is so comprehensive that even an angel reflects this light to illumine the entire world at the darkest time of the Tribulation.
