Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In the midst of Satan’s inefficacious assault at the end of the Millennial Kingdom, God’s people remain safe: “They [Satan and his rebel force] went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them” (Revelation 20:9). This final rebellion will not impact the believers on earth at that time. The defeat of Jesus’ foes is complete and quick, but “the saints” are untouched. I think often of the implications of I John 4:4: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He [Who] is in you, than he [who] is in the world.” The context is of “false prophets” (verse 1) promulgating “the spirit of error” (verse 6). Because each believer is indwelt by God the Holy Spirit (“He [Who] is in you”), each one of us is fully capable of recognizing the attacks of Satan (“he [who] is in the world”) and is assured of the full resources of God in blunting any and all of “the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11). Satan is real and powerful, but he cannot have “the saints” who belong to God the Son, Jesus Christ. May we be strengthened in our resolve as we contemplate the thoroughness of His protection of His own.
