Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The chief attraction of the believer’s eternity is found in Revelation 21:3: “And I [John} heard a great voice out of heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.’” Each believer will be with the Savior, and the Savior will be with each believer. The possessive pronoun “His” should not be overlooked. It functions as an adjective, modifying “people.” This possessive pronoun can refer to ownership (for example, “That is his car”), but that is not its usage here. It instead is used to indicate relationship (for example, “That is his uncle”). That our God would append His name to ours in this way is truly remarkable. He is telling us that His relationship with us is not a casual thing, that it is everlastingly important to Him. As serious Christians, we should be both humbled and highly motivated by this revelation of the huge heart of our Savior God. The closing words of an old hymn (“I’ve Found a Friend”) roll through my mind: “From Him Who loves me now so well, / What pow’r my soul can sever? / Shall life or death or earth or hell? / No – I am His forever.” Such is the certainty that we possess in Christ Jesus.
