Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Let us spend one more day considering the implications of Revelation 21:4: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” “Former things” points to the past, the wiping away of tears to the present (the present of when we enter eternity, that is), and the eradication of the causes of “crying” to the eternal future. This thoroughness of thought and action is consistent with the revelation of our Savior’s character. Both Revelation 1:4 and 1:8 refer to Jesus as the One “[Who] is, and [Who] was, and [Who] is to come.” The same teaching is found in Revelation 4:8b, which says, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, [Who] was, and is, and is to come.” These verses remind us that our Lord is not controlled by time. Rather, He controls time – all time. Past, present, and future do not affect Him; He both affects and effects them. Because He is not constrained by time in any way, we can be certain that in His own time He will accomplish all that He has promised.
