Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
In Revelation 21:5, we find these words of promise from our Savior God: “And He [Who] sat upon the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things new.’ And He said unto me [John], ‘Write: for these words are true and faithful.’” A significant part of this newness will be each one of us, each believer. “Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep [die] but we shall all be changed. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (I Corinthians 15:51-52). The sin nature that each of us possesses now and that is a constant vexation will be instantaneously and thoroughly vanquished then. The sensitive Christian feels the awful power and pull of sin and fights through the Word and the Spirit against its insidiousness. Glorious will be the day when that fight is ended – and when we will fight no more with each other and with our good God!
