Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 5:14 contains the fifth use of “Amen” in this prophetic book: “And the four beasts [angels] said, ‘Amen.’ And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped Him [Who] loveth for ever and ever.” This “Amen” is a reverent response to “a new song” (verse 9) that ultimately includes “every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them” (verse 13). All of this is a picture of peace and harmony – what the world says that it wants even as it rejects Jesus Christ. It is fitting that “Amen,” a term of agreement and affirmation, is employed in this future scene of praise and worship. When we utter or sing, “Amen,” we are agreeing with what our Savior God has said or done; that usage is found throughout the Bible. Here, we are adding an additional layer of praise by joining with the angels, the elders, and “every creature.” In this sense, an “Amen” now anticipates the eternal “Amen” then.
