Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We have recently studied Revelation 22:20: “He [Who] testifieth these things saith, ‘Surely I come quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” This “Amen” is backed by “even so,” or “yes.” This is John’s genuine response to the revelation of our Savior God’s soon return. More than 1900 years ago, this beloved disciple had a Biblical expectation that sustained him in his undeserved and lonely imprisonment. We are specifically warned against setting a date for Jesus’ return (Matthew 24:36) a practice that remains a favorite of false prophets today. However, we can be certain of the fact that His return is closer than it was in John’s day and that each passing day brings it one day closer. The plan of God has not changed; the “Amen” response of the believer should not change, either.
