Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we touched upon yesterday, not everything that is new is good, as Jeremiah 6:16 clarifies. However, some new things are definitely good, as Jeremiah wrote in Lamentations 3:21-23: “This I recall in my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness.” Anything from God to us reflects His inherent goodness and is good for us: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with Whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17). These gifts are “new,” but they are not the bright baubles and bubbly beverages associated with the world’s New Year’s revelry. Rather, they are solid and substantial and spiritually strengthening, stretching out into all eternity. I join with Jeremiah; I “hope” for the “new” blessings of Jesus to be your portion “every morning.”
