Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The conclusion of Jesus’ healing of a deaf and mute man is found in Mark 7:36-37: “And He charged them that they should tell no man: but the more He charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it; and were beyond measure astonished, saying, ‘He hath done all things well: He maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.’” Our focus has been, appropriately, upon Jesus and this afflicted man. We should note, though, that a group of people (“they” – verse 32) cared enough about this man to bring him to Jesus. Throughout Scripture, we find people of faith trying to do the right thing to help others. This particular group wanted the best for a needy friend. The outcome was outstanding, and these people evaluated the miracle and reached the correct conclusion that Jesus was fulfilling Messianic passages such as Isaiah 35:5-6. Their ongoing interest in Jesus is a reminder that our Lord has His people scattered throughout the land.
