Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The book of Isaiah is overtly Messianic, prophesying the coming of God the Son, Jesus Christ. In the middle of an extensive Messianic section is Isaiah 54:5: “For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is His name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; the God of the whole earth shall He be called.” What a full verse! Only One Who is divine could meet its exact and exacting requirements, and Jesus has fulfilled each one. Certainly He is our “Maker.” John 1:3 says of Jesus that “all things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” This comprehensive language eliminates any possibility of evolution, including theistic evolution (the false idea that God created the process of evolution). Colossians 1:16 adds, “For by Him [Jesus] were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” Two applications of this essential truth jump to mind. First, since God has created all people in His image (Genesis 1:26-27), our perspective of others must be altered in a positive manner. Much evil ensues when individuals denigrate the full humanity of others – a humanity that is full because of the image of God in each person. Second, we must decide personally what we will do with what Jesus has made. With His grand purpose for each one of us comes great responsibility. As our Maker, He has made a good thing, including the opportunity to fulfill His plan and purpose.
