Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The Satanic and demonic actions of Revelation 9 are a grim reminder of the evil intentions of our enemies. We need to be prepared for warfare; we need to “stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth” (Ephesians 6:14a). Ignoring the truth of God is deadly – everlastingly deadly. Hebrews 10:26-27 is soberingly direct: “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” What more can God do if we will not have the truth? He cannot alter the truth, for it, like Him, is immutable. He cannot provide another “sacrifice for sins,” for He has already provided the greatest sacrifice of all – the substitutionary atonement of God the Son, Jesus Christ. His truth stands – and is still available. Psalm 145:18 reassures us that “the LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth.” Jesus unequivocally exclaimed, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:6). May each of us “stand” in the “truth” and with “the Truth.”
