Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus continues to listen to us (Revelation 8:1-4; Psalm 17:6; 31:2; 71:2; 86:1; 102:2). Because He intently cares about our words, we should be sincerely interested in what we communicate to Him. In addition to the simple “Jesus, forgive me,” we need to say “Jesus, help me.” We must ask for such assistance in the spiritual realm. I think of the honest and heart-broken father who “cried out and said with tears, ‘Lord, I believe; help Thou mine unbelief’” (Mark 9:24). We all need help to have our faith grow and work out into all areas of our lives. Personally, I frequently ask for Jesus’ help in performing practical tasks, for I am limited in repairing machinery or in building anything. As I pray for help, Jesus does not hand me the right tool or tell me how to speed up the process. However, He does give me perspective, keeps me calm and focused, and helps me to be persistent (for you have to be persistent when you’re stupid!). We should also note the “our” in Psalm 33:20: “Our soul waiteth for the LORD; He is our help and shield.” Thus, we should also pray “Jesus, help us.” He will listen, and He will help each one of us.
