Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Yesterday, we briefly considered the prevalence of evil even though Jesus is the Head of all things (Ephesians 4:15; Colossians 2:9-10). We saw that our refusal of Jesus’ leadership inevitably results in evil. Further helpful instruction is found in Galatians 6:7-9: “Be not deceived: God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” From this passage, we see, first, that there is an end to evil – “life everlasting” for each one who receives the salvation that Jesus offers. Second, right now, the existing evil is being dealt with, for “God is not mocked.” The principle of sowing and reaping is inviolable. Third, if we follow the leadership of Jesus, we will be actively and effectively battling evil through the power of God “the Spirit,” Who indwells each believer (I Corinthians 6:19). We must not give up this battle (“if we faint not”), for our “well doing” is under the headship of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
