Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

My first job other than farm work was tearing down part of a factory. We removed all of the machinery and gutted an entire area. My company was not part of the rebuilding process. Perhaps that early experience is why I have always been better at wrecking things than constructing them. I admire anyone who can build; thus, I admire Jesus. It is the nature of God to create, and His actions are always consistent with His character. John 1:1-3 makes two primary absolute statements. First, Jesus (“the Word”) is fully God. Second, Jesus is the Creator of “all things.” The verb structure of verse 3 indicates an event rather than a process; in other words, the account of Genesis 1 must be taken literally. At the very core of His being, then, Jesus is a builder rather than a wrecker. He has built all that we see around us, and what we see is “very good” (Genesis 1:31).
