Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 22:21 provides the final “Amen” in the Bible: “And the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.” We spent some time considering some aspects of this “grace.” Since it is truly an inexhaustible subject, we could continue that study into eternity. “Grace,” in simple terms, is God’s giving to us. John is stating the blessed fact of God’s giving nature as he finishes this “Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1). To that truth, he adds his agreement. Thus, he is saying that, despite his personal trouble and difficulty, he too is a recipient of the kind blessings of God. I admire folks who exhibit steady, sturdy, staunch, strong faith under duress. I cannot relate to the triumphalism of those who erroneously teach that faith immediately results in wealth and health and a photogenic head of hair. The “Amen” of John is real: in his hard reality, he could still rejoice in the eternal reality of God’s goodness to him and to his fellow believers. May each “Amen” of ours be this real.
