Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we have been studying from Mark 10:2-12 and other related passages, God ordains marriage and family and expects us to highly value what He has graciously created for us. We should not lose sight of the fact that God chose the family as the means by which the Savior, Jesus Christ, came to us to save us. Galatians 4:4-5 proclaims, “But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoptions of sons.” Thus, we see that Jesus, God the Son, became a son (fully human and fully divine) in order to make us His inheriting adult “sons” with all privileges as “heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:15) now and forever. (As an aside females are of course included in this extraordinary promise; in II Corinthians 6:17d-18, we find these words about God’s family: “’I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters,’ saith the Lord Almighty.”) This divine decision to so exalt marriage and family must govern the way in which Christians view their own marriages and families.
