Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

The fourth usage of the word “Amen” in the book of Revelation is unique: “And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning [source] of the creation of God’” (3:14). Here, “Amen” is used as a designation for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. With reverence, we can say that He is the everlasting “So Be It.” This appellation points specifically to His activity of “creation.” The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus was directly involved in creating all things (John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16-18). His blessed creativity should be a source of wonder to all, and His ongoing originality will be one of the continuing attractions of eternity. The phrase “the beginning of the creation of God” also affirms the full deity of Jesus, for logically “the creation of God” must be performed by One Who is God. It is likely that this phrase was given to John directly by Jesus Himself to combat early heresies in the first century that challenged the truth that Jesus is God. These heresies sadly continue in cults today, including the Mormons and the Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Word of God is plain that Jesus was not created; rather, as God the Son, He is the Eternal God and the Creator. When we say, “Amen,” we are agreeing with Him regarding His self-revelation.
