Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

We know that Jesus is eternal. We also know that He is the Creator. Thus, we can conclude that He is eternally creative. This truth has long been one of my favorite themes. John 1:1-5 is a key passage on this subject. Verse 1 reads, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The use of “the Word” as a designation for Jesus reminds us that He created language. It means more than that, of course; in fact, the Greek word logos includes the thoughts and concepts that precede the expression and points to God’s revelation of Himself and to His sovereign creativity. This inherent creativity clearly precedes man’s creation. In eternity past (not an easy concept for us to comprehend), One God in Three Persons (Father, Son, and Spirit) existed. The multiple relationships within the Triune Godhead involve communication, as all real relationships do. Thus, each word, whether spoken or written, directs us to the Word, Jesus Christ. He is the Creator (“the Word was God”), and language, which He fashioned, enables us to think, speak, and write. May we use this creative gift for His eternal glory.
