Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus desires to speak to us so much that He uses nature (Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:18-20) to communicate to anyone who will take even a moment to notice. He also speaks within through the conscience. Thus, He speaks not only through everything around us but also within each one of us. The very fact that each human has the capacity to choose between right and wrong points to the existence of a good God. In other words, man’s moral nature argues for a moral Creator. Of course, because of sin, the conscience can be impaired – “defile” (Titus 1:15) and “seared” (I Tim. 4:2). However, it can also be “good” (Hebrews 13:18), and we can “discern both good and evil” (Hebrews 5:14). Many times I have said that God is blessedly thorough: He does not leave His work partially done. Thus, He both surrounds us and suffuses us with His speech. Lord, may we continue to marvel that You want to talk to us, and may we listen with wonderment.
