Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus is by nature personal, each individual must receive Him as personal Savior. Luke 19:1-10 is the familiar story of Zacchaeus, the petite publican. His life as a corrupt tax collector was known by all in the community (verse 7). He was spiritually lost, but that is exactly the kind of person for whom Jesus came to die: “For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (verse 10). Jesus said of Zacchaeus and his new faith, “This day is salvation come to this house” (verse 9). His statement does not mean that everyone there was suddenly saved, for salvation is an individual matter. However, the remarkable and immediate transformation in the life of the lucre-loving Zacchaeus (verse 8) did provide the opportunity to all present to consider their own spiritual condition and claim the salvation that Jesus freely offered to all. An eternal relationship with Jesus is inherently personal. Thank you, Jesus, for giving the very best to us – Yourself and Your salvation.
