Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) places “the prayers of all saints” directly “before the throne” of God (Revelation 8:3-4). Approaching God in prayer is not a light thing, and it would be easy to be intimidated. Matthew 6:7 is most helpful: “When ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do, for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.” God gave us the gift of language; thus, He is not going to be impressed by the number of polysyllabic words that we employ. Jesus is “the Word” (John 1:1), the full expression of God. He is a communicator and desires that we communicate with Him. Simple, sincere words of supplication are pleasing to Him. We do not have to worry about our grammar or vocabulary. Furthermore, Matthew 6:8 reminds us that “your Father knoweth what things ye have need of before ye ask Him.” If we forget something, He still remembers. Let us then pray consistently and confidently, knowing that our Savior God is ever alert to our words and to our needs.
