Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 11 tells us that everyone in the world at the midpoint of the Tribulation will observe the deaths of two anointed prophets: “And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves” (verse 9). The callous response of these people is gravely inappropriate, especially in a Middle Eastern setting such as this one, for respect for the dead is an important part of that culture. We should note that all people on the earth “shall see” that the prophets have been murdered by the Antichrist. God is not bound by technology, of course; He could reveal this scene to everyone in a vision, just as He gave the Apostle John this “Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1). However, for cynics who have scoffed at the possibility of a world-wide observation of these deaths, our present technology should cause them to pause and consider the predictive power of the Word of God. Because all of these things will be done openly, no one will be able to say that God has not been gracious in His precise warnings.
