Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

When Jesus does anything, He does it absolutely. Thus, when He extends an invitation to us, it is thorough. In Hebrews 4:16, we are given this compassionate command: “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Not only can we “come” to Jesus, we can “come boldly”! As we saw yesterday from II Corinthians 6:18, we are members of the family of God, His “sons and daughters.” Family members in the same household do not have to knock and wait for the door to be opened – and wonder if it will be opened. How much more can we who are in God’s family be certain that we have immediate and constant access to Him in prayer! We do not have to skulk into His presence, for He wants us to communicate readily and often with Him. Let us then continue to pray regularly and diligently, and let us as we pray remember how good our Lord is in inviting us to “come boldly” to Him.
