Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we saw yesterday from Revelation 11:13, Jesus reigns over all. Thus, He rules over the earth. Verse 15 states, “And the seventh angel sounded; and there were voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He shall reign for ever and ever.’” This sovereignty will be physically true in a time to come, when Jesus returns and sets foot “upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem in the east” (Zechariah 14:4). However, it is literally true now (not just figuratively). For example, nearly 8 billion people inhabit this planet, all of them created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Of course, not all people acknowledge the image of God in man or even the existence of God, but He has provided billions of examples of His creativity. Each individual is capable of some degree of creativity precisely because we are all made in God’s image. Even each unbeliever is thus an unwitting and probably unwilling testament to the reign of Jesus over this world.
