Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Although we do not know specifically what Jesus will do today, we know that He will love us (Romans 5:8, 10; 8:1, 38-39), will be faithful to us (Romans 8:14-17), and will strengthen us in love, faithfulness, and prayer (Romans 8:26-27). His efforts on our behalf are ongoing, as we find in Romans 8:29: “For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Part of this transformative process is a shifting of our focus from ourselves to our Savior. Romans 8:28 affirms, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Yes, our Lord has a purpose in all that He does. Certainly part of that purpose is to give each one of us a purposeful existence. There are good things to do in God’s name. Each one of these actions, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, is a piece of His grand design. Sometimes we may feel ineffective or even useless. Our Lord says otherwise, for He has placed us within His plans and is shaping us there. May we be grateful that He has invested each moment of our lives with genuine purpose.
