Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We continue to explore “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8), specifically thinking of His preliminary or preparatory sanctification of us. As we saw yesterday, Jesus said, “No man can come to Me, except the Father which hath sent Me draw him” (John 6:44a). Because our God is Triune – One God in Three Persons – we should expect that Father, Son, and Spirit all draw us, and Scripture confirms this thorough and unified calling. In John 12:22, Jesus, God the Son, said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” Verse 23 clarifies that He was speaking about His death on the Cross. John 16:13a says of God the Spirit that “when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth.” Thus, Father, Son, and Spirit are in perfect harmony in reaching out to us and drawing us to salvation and eternal life. This persistent love and labor is truly awesome and deserving of careful thought (more about that tomorrow) and continual thanksgiving.
